Day 1 Broome

Arrive Broome

Where the red dirt meets the ocean, colourful Broome beckons travellers from around Australia and the world. Once a sleepy outback pearling town, Broome has long been renowned for its relaxed atmosphere and unique character. The town is surrounded by the tropical turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, with the white sandy stretch of Cable Beach contrasting with the red rocks of Gantheaume Point and the dusky sands of Roebuck Bay. Learn about the rough and tumble early days of pearling, when Broome’s name was known the world over for the size and quality of its mother of pearl.

Half Day Broome Sights with Sunset Camel Ride – Shared Small Group Tour

Inclusions: Hotel pick up and drop off, Matso beer tasting, pearl appreciation talk, camel ride.

Your 6 hour tour begins in Chinatown, hearing fascinating stories of this colourful precinct. Learn about the ancient art of pearling from one of the local pearl producers, Cygnet Bay, and enjoy a historical sound show at the famous Sun Pictures, the worlds oldest operating open air picture garden (now listed in the Guinness World Records). You will then take a drive through Old Broome to view typical Broome architecture and old Pearling Masters homes then view the aqua waters of Roebuck Bay at Town Beach and learn of Broome’s One Day War. We then stop at Matsos Broome Brewery to sample their hand made ales and famous ginger beer (complimentary tasting included). Afterwards, visit the tranquil Japanese Cemetery and take an easy paced walk at Gantheaume Point known for dinosaur footprints and the story of Anastasia’s Pool. You will then head north of the rocks to meet your camel for this iconic Broome experience.

Day 3 Broome

This morning is at leisure and an opportunity to do some independent exploring, or just relax.

8 Day Southern Quest – Broome to Hunter River – 1 Double Cabin – Shared Cruise

Inclusions:

Hotel pick up and drop off, all meals, daily excursions, a helicopter flight over the Mitchell Falls, a light airclaft transfer from Hunter River to Broome.

Exclusions:

All alcoholic beverages (available to pre-order or bring your own), wifi (available to purchase at A$100 per cabin), satellite phone, laundry.
Bring your own beverages not to exceed the luggage restriction of maximum 10kg/22lbs per person.

– Luggage allowance is maximum of 10kg/22lbs per person in soft bags. Any excess luggage may be stored in Kimberley Quest office in Broome.

– Kimberley Quest has the right to change the itinerary, the vessel, or cancel the cruise as a result of some unexpected event or prevailing weather conditions. Cruise departure/arrival times are approximate and can vary due to tides, weather, etc.

Your Southern Quest begins when a courtesy vehicle picks you up from your accommodation at approximately 4.30pm and transfers you to the Kimberley Quest II, where you will be welcomed on board by your captain and crew. Enjoy a relaxing drink as you watch the sun dip below the horizon, while cruising past the famous Cable Beach.

Day 4 Buccaneer Archipelago, Dugong Bay, Talbot Bay

This morning will find you crossing the vast King Sound, cruising through the thousands of islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago. In and around Dugong Bay, you take a scenic tender excursion and cool off with a refreshing swim in one of the freshwater pools. Around the corner lies Talbot Bay, home to one of the icons of the Kimberley coast, the spectacular Horizontal Waterfalls. Take a tender and head in for an up-close and exhilarating ride through this natural phenomenon. In the afternoon take a scenic excursion up the back of Cyclone Creek to marvel at the amazing rock formations.

Day 5 Collier Bay, Montgomery Reef, Red Cone Creek

Early morning you fish in Collier Bay, your first chance to catch a Barramundi. You then cruise to the amazing Montgomery Reef, which covers more than 300km², making it Australia’s largest inshore reef. Watch as the tide falls right before your eyes, creating a spectacular waterfall effect. Take a tender ride to view many marine species, including turtles and sea birds. Enjoy an afternoon cruise to Red Cone Creek for a refreshing swim at Ruby Falls or try your luck at mud crabbing.

Day 6 Doubtful Bay, Sale River, Raft Point

Early morning you fish in Collier Bay, your first chance to catch a Barramundi. You then cruise to the amazing Montgomery Reef, which covers more than 300km², making it Australia’s largest inshore reef. Watch as the tide falls right before your eyes, creating a spectacular waterfall effect. Take a tender ride to view many marine species, including turtles and sea birds. Enjoy an afternoon cruise to Red Cone Creek for a refreshing swim at Ruby Falls or try your luck at mud crabbing.

Day 7 Kuri Bay, Camden Harbour

Relax on board as you cruise past Augustus Island and the remote pearling settlement of Kuri Bay. At nearby Camden Harbour, you visit the forlorn settler’s graves on Sheep Island and soak up the history of the first European settlement in the 1860s. In the afternoon take a tender excursion for a spot of exploration. Have a go at fishing or collect rock oysters, before unwinding on the sundeck to take in the beautiful scenery.

Day 8 Prince Regent River, King Cascade, Cathedral Falls

Early morning you cruise through St George Basin, a stunning inland sea. Leaving the vista of mighty Mt Trafalgar and Mt Waterloo, you cruise up the Prince Regent River, marvelling at the pristine waterway that cuts through sandstone cliffs and gorges. Arriving at the King Cascade waterfalls, which is spring fed, marvel at the rush of water cascading in breathtaking tiers, surrounded by lush ferns and a myriad of wildlife. Climb above the falls for an unforgettable swim in a massive crystal clear pool. Be rewarded with a breathtaking view over the magnificent Prince Regent River in the distance – wilderness adventuring at its best! Late afternoon join your guides for an excursion to Cathedral Falls, while spotting crocodiles and flying foxes. Alternatively fish the Prince Regent River which is renowned for big Barra and Threadfin Salmon.

Day 9 Prince Regent River, Camp Creek, Careening Bay

Wake early morning for your last chance to catch a Barra in the rich waters of the Prince Regent River. Visit Camp Creek, a beautiful waterway lined with weeping paperbarks where you can enjoy a walk to the top of the falls for another memorable swim. In the afternoon you cruise out of the Prince Regent River and visit Careening Bay, site of an ancient boab tree first visited in 1820 by Phillip Parker King. Relax on board to another spectacular sunset as the sun sinks below the Kimberley horizon, while you cross Prince Frederick Harbour towards the Hunter River.

Day 10 Broome

In the morning you explore the spectacular Hunter River, one of the most scenic rivers for a relaxing ride in the tenders as you spot ancient rock art, crocodiles and flying foxes, taking in the flora and fauna of the Kimberley for the last time. Depart the Kimberley Quest II by helicopter where you will enjoy a scenic flight over the Mitchell Falls. At the Mitchell Plateau airstrip you will board a light aircraft and discover the immensity of the Kimberley. Return to Broome by sunset where the team will transfer you upon disembarkation to your Broome city accommodation.
