Inosia Apelu
Destination Specialist, FIT's | 2016

I am originally from Samoa, the treasured islands of the South Pacific, also considered the heart of the Polynesia. For me, a career as a travel specialist was simply about lining up something I was passionate about.

I have studied travel and tourism in high school and also at college in Auckland, New Zealand. My life in the travel industry started when I went back home to Samoa in 2006, then made my move in 2012 to Wellington, New Zealand and remained in the industry. After 3 years with an inbound company in New Zealand I decided to move to Sydney, Australia with my husband Shane in 2015. It was a very big move for us but we managed to pull through and I am so thankful for this opportunity and I have to say I am very fortunate to have another wonderful home!

I started working at Southern World Australia in April 2016, and I am very blessed to be part of this amazing team.  I have travelled a little since I arrived here, to Cairns the gateway to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and also to Adelaide, South Australia discovering its variety of food and wine and all that it has to offer. There is still so much that I would love to see and experience in Australia, being my new home with its history, culture and unique wonders.

Being part of this ever-growing industry has taught me a lot. A good travel consultant must have empathy for what the individual traveller wants to get out of their trip, whether it’s beautiful memories with loved ones or simply an adventure, or even a deeper understanding of the local people and its culture. The work is definitely challenging but at the same time very interesting and fun. They don’t just call it the hospitality business for nothing. We make people happy and work doesn’t get any better than that.

Apart from work and the love of travelling, I also love a good time with my big family and church or a good book in hand, while at the same time trying to catch up with a good mystery TV series.
